Med Response BC (MRBC) is dedicated to improving access to emergency medical services in rural and remote areas of British Columbia. We are committed to implementing innovative projects and initiatives to ensure timely and effective medical response for those in need.
PHRM Course
This intensive 7-day residential course, offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to enhance both technical and non-technical skills. Participants will engage in didactic sessions, hands-on skills stations, and dynamic simulations. Key topics include team dynamics, care provision outside of traditional hospital or clinic settings, and strategies for effective planning, preparation, and packaging for patient transport. Additionally, the course covers critical aspects of care during transport and the role of medical oversight in these scenarios, supported by virtual simulations with RTVS (ROCCi).
Complementing the residential course is a 3-month quality improvement (QI) project tailored to address local healthcare issues.
Conference
On Feb 27 & 28th 2026, a two-day conference will convene with the aim of addressing rural health inequities, focusing on the critical role of retrieval and transfer medicine. This event seeks to raise awareness about the importance of these services, particularly for residents in rural and remote communities across British Columbia.
The conference will provide a platform for the dissemination of knowledge and the exchange of ideas on closing existing gaps in retrieval and transfer medicine. Attendees, including physicians, nurses, paramedics and healthcare administrators, will have the opportunity to network, learn from one another, and gain insights from esteemed local and international speakers.
Practicum
During a three-month practicum in PHRM, working with a hospital-based transport team. The schedule will structured with academic sessions weekly and clinical blocks from Tuesday to Thursday, each lasting 12 hours, with time spent on inter-facility transport and developing critical care skills. Direct clinical supervision will be provided.
