Med Response BC Society (MRBC) has earned national attention, featured in The Globe and Mail in a report spotlighting innovation in Canadian health care.

The article profiles MRBC's mission to close a stark survival gap: patients in rural, remote and Indigenous communities face. As CEO Dr. Michael Christian puts it, "Where you live in B.C. should not decide whether you live."

MRBC's model plans to dispatch physician-led interprofessional teams to the patient's side, wherever they are — an approach proven internationally. In Wales, physician-led retrieval has cut trauma deaths by more than a third.

Since incorporating last year, MRBC has advanced a feasibility study for a phased, 24/7 retrieval service reaching up to 1.35 million rural British Columbians, delivered training to rural clinicians, and drawn roughly 9,000 views to its inaugural 2026 conference.

That momentum continues at the BC Prehospital & Retrieval Medicine Conference, February 27–28, 2027, at UBC — bringing patients, clinicians, paramedics, search and rescue, communities and government into one room.

As Dr. Christian says: "The solutions have to be built together."
