The recently released Search & Rescue: What We Heard Report 2025 underscores the vital role Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) volunteers play in keeping rural and remote communities safe. With over 3,000 dedicated volunteers across 78 groups, the report highlights both their incredible commitment and the growing pressures they face: limited helicopter access, gaps in advanced medical capability, and the need for better coordination with health and emergency services.
These findings align directly with the mission of Med Response BC (MRBC). Our model is designed to deliver advanced retrieval and immediate care in rural and Indigenous communities, bridging the gap between on-scene rescue and higher levels of care. By partnering with GSAR and the BC Search and Rescue Association, MRBC can bring enhanced medical oversight, culturally safe care, and coordinated transport solutions to the frontlines of rescue.
The report provides a roadmap for collaboration: shared clinical governance and medical oversight, integrated training, and seamless communication between GSAR, BCEHS, and MRBC. Together, we can build a system that supports volunteers, improves patient outcomes, and strengthens community resilience. MRBC is committed to working alongside the SAR community to ensure the best care is delivered—where it’s needed, when it’s needed.
